Le Cepe
October 2006

During October especially if it has been raining the French take to the forests to hunt for mushrooms.
Our French friends Marie Claire and Jean Claude asked if we would like to go with them and hunt out the very special mushroom the cepe.
We are surrounded by forests here, but the cepe tends to grow in abundance under and around oak trees. So off we set to a forest very near to us which is one of the largest oak forests in Europe.
We soon had baskets full of this very special mushroom, which looks very different to any mushroom you may find in the supermarket. It has a brown cap and underneath is yellow sponge which you remove before eating.
There are of cause many types of mushrooms in the forest in all colours and shapes. Some are poisonous and you can take your harvest of mushrooms into any pharmacy here and they will tell you which are safe to eat and which are not.
