Hoopoe
May 2007

We are often visited by the hoopoe (Latin name Upupa epops) as caught on digital film above.
These birds are quite exotic-looking, with a pinkish-brown body, striking black and white wings, a long black downcurved bill, and a long pinkish-brown crest which it raises when excited. You’re unlikely to see one in the UK, but we sometimes notice the strange flight and unusual appearance of these visitors when they come grubbing in the garden.
