From Leaves to Branches
February 2005

French farmers don’t have much to do during the day, as all of their income comes from CAP subsidies. But our neighbour likes to visit his fields and complain or see what we’re up to. For example, he has asked us to cut down the laurel hedges at the edge of his field, to generate about 2 inches extra ploughing space and allow a little extra light on his seedlings.
It took four days to trim the 100 foot long 20 foot high hedge to the halfway state shown in the picture.
